Membership

Dear Prospective Member,

Thank you for your interest in the Jewish Community of Japan.

We are always happy to see new faces (as well as old ones) and welcome you to stop by our building at any time. The Center is an active place and we hope you will join us in our daily activities, lectures, classes, and discussion groups. You may also choose to use the Judaica library and computers, or meet with the Rabbi, or join friends and attend services and holiday meals.

Our spiritual leader is Rabbi Andrew Scheer. Rabbi Scheer has been with us since the autumn of 2020 and is eager to meet everyone as they settle into Tokyo life.

We consider our community a unique melting pot in this city of 14 million. We may be of different backgrounds, countries, ages, occupations and personalities, but we have our Jewish tradition in common. For this reason, many people consider the JCC not only a house of worship but a home away from home and a place of friendship. In addition to religious service and school, we offer a wide range of social, educational and cultural programs. People also regularly gather for Friday night dinners, Saturday Kiddush and festival meals, particularly convenient because of our kosher kitchen.

As you know, the JCC is entirely supported by the community, and depends on our member's support to be able to provide services and facilities. We sincerely hope you will consider joining us.

Below is an explanation of our membership categories and fees. If you are not certain which category applies to you, please contact us. We will be happy to address your concerns and answer your questions.

Most of all, on behalf of all of us at the Jewish Community of Japan, we warmly welcome you into our community, and look forward to seeing you in the near future.
